Hotel Sacher in Vienna celebrates its 150th anniversary

Vienna, Spain, Apr 18 (EFE).- Nearly two centuries ago, a stroke of luck led the young chef Franz Sacher to create what is now the world’s most famous chocolate cake. Today, the hotel founded by his son and bearing his name celebrates its 150th anniversary as one of the few five-star hotels that remains a family-run business.

Legend has it that Franz Sacher invented this cake in 1832, when he was a 16-year-old apprentice in the kitchen of Prince Klemens von Metternich, at that time the most powerful man in the Habsburg Empire after the emperor.
