Hanoi, Apr 14 (EFE).- Chinese President Xi Jinping begins a tour of Southeast Asia in Vietnam this Monday, which will also take him to Malaysia and Cambodia, a tour marked by Beijing's trade war with the United States.Xi was scheduled to land Monday in Hanoi to meet with the top leaders of Vietnam, one of the countries hardest hit by the additional tariffs the US plans to impose under President Donald Trump.The visit, planned for weeks, comes at a time when Beijing is already facing US tariffs of 145 percent, while Vietnam is negotiating a 46 percent reduction in US tariffs, which, following the temporary suspension announced by Trump, could take effect as early as July.In an article published in the Nhan Dan newspaper on the occasion of his visit, Xi spoke of the need to "strengthen coordination" in various sectors, such as education, agriculture, infrastructure, and technology, "in the face of the rise of unilateralism and protectionism." The visit comes at a time when China is seeking to present itself as a reliable partner in the ongoing trade war with the United States.Xi was received with an elaborate ceremony at Hanoi airport by the president of Vietnam, Luong Cuong, which included a red carpet and flags of both nations. He later held talks with the general secretary of the Communist Party, To Lam, considered the most powerful figure in the country.The state media emphasised the importance of the visit as part of Beijing's strategy to strengthen regional ties in the midst of global economic tensions.
