Myanmar celebrates Thingyan water festival

YANGON, Apr 14 (EFE/EPA).— People celebrated on Tuesday the Thingyan Water Festival in Yangon, marking the traditional New Year with water splashing.

Participants poured water and applied thanaka (traditional cosmetic paste) as a symbol of cleansing past sins and welcoming renewal.

The annual festival runs from 13 to 16 April and remains one of Myanmar’s most important cultural celebrations. (Camera: NYEIN CHAN NAING).
