Built between 1921 and 1930 as cooperative social housing projects inspired by the garden city movement, the neighbourhood's low-rise houses, private gardens, and curving streets were designed to provide healthier living conditions, in contrast to the dense, terraced urban fabric that characterises much of Brussels.
